DJ Zan-D Reveals Why He’s Withdrawing His Vote From a Particular Political Party in the 2026 Local Elections. As South Africans head to voting stations for the 2026 Local Government Elections, DJ Zan-D has made his position clear, saying one political party has lost his support over municipal regulations he believes have made life unnecessarily difficult for people working in the entertainment industry.

The veteran DJ, radio personality and producer took to X to reflect on his experiences navigating the industry under municipalities governed by the unnamed party. According to Zan-D, restrictive event bylaws and excessive regulations have created unnecessary obstacles for entertainment professionals trying to make a living.

“Having worked in the entertainment industry for years, I’ve experienced firsthand how this one particular party made life difficult for us through restrictive event bylaws and excessive regulations in the metros they governed, making it harder for us to earn a living. I will not vote for a party that has made our lives unnecessarily difficult. There’s a difference between maintaining order and making it unnecessarily difficult for people to earn a living,” he wrote.

His comments come as approximately 29 million registered voters head to the polls, with voting taking place at more than 23,000 stations nationwide between 07:00 and 21:00. The outcome will determine the leadership of South Africa’s metropolitan, district and local municipalities for the next five years.

For Zan-D, the issue is particularly personal. Having spent more than two decades building his name across South African hip-hop, radio and nightlife, the DJ understands the challenges faced by those whose livelihoods depend on the entertainment business.

His career has seen him become a familiar voice on YFM, serve as a resident DJ on e.tv’s Club 808 and play an influential role in introducing local music and emerging talent to wider audiences through radio and club culture.

Although he stopped short of identifying the political party, his criticism raises questions about how municipal regulations affect the people who keep South Africa’s entertainment scene moving. From event permits and noise restrictions to other compliance requirements, municipal policies can have a direct impact on DJs, promoters, venue owners and event organisers.

There is, of course, a need for regulations that protect communities, maintain public safety and ensure order during public events. However, Zan-D believes there is a difference between putting necessary measures in place and creating barriers that make it difficult for industry professionals to earn an honest living.

With local government elections determining who gets to shape municipal policies and priorities, his message adds an entertainment industry perspective to the wider conversation about accountability, governance and economic opportunity.

As the country casts its votes, Zan-D’s stance highlights how experiences beyond traditional political debates can influence the choices people make at the ballot box. For the DJ, the treatment of those working in the entertainment industry is clearly an important consideration when deciding who deserves his vote.
